Who We Are

Medicine in Need is a not-for-profit research organization devoted to the successful development and manufacture of affordable and effective vaccines and therapies with characteristics that allow their widespread use despite the daunting economic and logistical constraints of the developing world. Today, we are focused on solutions for Tuberculosis, Malaria and HIV/AIDS, through the work of two independent divisions:

  • MEND Biotechnology Development is a not-for-profit network of biotech laboratories that specializes in applying advanced formulations and “alternate route of administration” technologies to vaccine and other therapeutic candidates to improve their overall sustainability and “developability.”  Learn more.
  • MEND Innovation and Translation Alliance Management (MITAM) catalyzes a networked community of pharmaceutical scientists, engineers, and other researchers, from industry and academia, involved in the development and implementation of advanced delivery technology, and applies the best technologies to the most critical needs of developing world vaccines and therapies.  Learn more.

Medicine in Need was founded by Harvard University Professor David Edwards, the inventor of MEND’s primary technology platform. With offices and laboratories in France, South Africa and the United States, we are aim to operate at a truly global level, without bias for region or geography.
