What is Lozol?
Lozol is a diuretic taken orally. Lozol is a brand name of Indapamide sold by Aventis Pharmaceuticals Inc. Lozol is used for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) and water retention (edema) due to excess sodium in the body. Indapamide is a form of thiazide which differs slightly by ring system to contain just one sulfonamide group. Lozol is very effective as medication for the prevention of stroke, kidney diseases or heart attacks associated with high blood pressure. Lozol reduces the workload of the heart by the removal of excess water from the system through urine.Lozol tablets are available as Lozol 2.5 mg and Lozol 1.25 mg doses. The exact Lozol dosage used by patients is taken once daily, usually in the morning without food. The Lozol dosage prescribed is based on health conditions and response to indapamide by the patient.Lozol is to be used continually to achieve maximum results and efficacy. Even when the patient feels completely well, a continuous use of Lozol is advised. Some patients begin to feel the full efficiency of Lozol after using it for several weeks. The degree of antihypertensive effect in patients varies among patients with degrees of renal impairment. However, diuretic efficacy is affected negatively as renal function decreased.
Uses of Lozol
Lozol is effective in the treatment of hypertension, also known as high blood pressure (HBP): a prolonged medication condition in which blood pressure in the arteries is continually increased. Patients with HBP are exposed to artery disease, heart failure due to too much work by the heart to circulate blood, stroke, and kidney disease among others. Lozol is also used in the treatment of edema; also called oedema which is an excess retention of fluid in the skin, precisely at interstitium and body cavities. This medical condition causes excruciating pain and also causes the skin to swell.Lozol 1.25 mg may be taken once daily for either of the conditions to quench excessive fluid retention and decrease the workload of the heart. Lozol 2.5 mg may also be used depending on the patient’s condition as started earlier and response to indapamide. But a daily dose of 5mg is usually not exceeded for any treatment. Lozol is also used for treatments not listed in the medical guide.Lozol is not safe for pediatric use as this medication has not been established to be safe for such use.
How does it work?
The active ingredient of Lozol, Indapamide is absorbed by the erythrocytes in the bloodstream. This impedes a constituent of delayed rectifier potassium current. This alienates actions of KCNQ1 and KCNE1 proteins and stimulates the synthesis of vasodilatory hypertensive prostaglandin.
